National Rural Health Mission and Homoeopathy The National Rural Health Mission (2005-2012) is a central government project to provide effective health care to rural population throughout the country with special focus on states, which have weak public health indicators and/or weak infrastructure. In order to achieve this goal, the mission seeks to revitalize local health traditions and mainstream AYUSH into the public health system. Though the project in theory gives a lot of opportunity to Homoeopathy and other AYUSH systems to involve in improving the public health standards, it is just the opposite in implementation. All concerned health authorities are aware of the role being played by Homoeopathy in rural India in improving the health of the poor. Still the opportunities and funds allocated to the homoeopathic system are quite meager compared with the funds being ‘enjoyed’ by the modern medicine. Almost all the projects submitted by the department of Homoeopathy in Kerala got turned down by the authorities by giving one or other flimsy reasons. Since this project is implemented through government institutions only, all other states and even the states like Kerala, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, UP and Punjab are not properly represented due to less number of homoeopathic institutions in government sector in these states. So we request the central health ministry to consider these facts and to convene a meeting comprising of members of CCH and AYUSH, stalwarts of homoeopathy in India and office bearers of recognized homoeopathic organizations like IHMA to discuss and finalize the parameters for allocation of above fund. The role of private sector cannot be ignored. The service of these doctors should be taken into confidence through organizations like IHMA. So we urgently call for a meeting of all sections of homoeopathy in India under the chairmanship of honourable Union Health Minister. Anticipating positive reaction,
Wishing you a very happy and prosperous new year
But for the time being, we are presenting before you the new face of our journal, thanks to Dr. V.Sudin Kumar, editorial board member and his friend Mr. Haksar, a great talent in the field of graphic designing. Of course, this is not the final product and we are not satisfied cent percent regarding this result. So kindly go through our journal giving special attention to the lay out and other details we have implemented so that you can continue to make suggestions and positive criticisms on all aspects of our journal My special thanks to Dr. S.Sreejeev, the new National President of Indian Homoeopathic Medical Association for giving me a free hand in the works of the journal and thanks to all readers for their suggestions and ideas Expecting your cooperation in future also
Thanking you Dear Colleagues Season’s greetings to all of you. After the first issue of the journal this year, we have been delayed in bringing out the subsequent issues due to certain technical problems relating to the printing of the journal. Be assured that this won’t happen in the future. By the time this journal reach you, Both Central and State Government’s budget for the financial year will be announced. As in case of previous years, this time also there are not many hopes for the homoeopathic fraternity of this country except some rays of hope for Keralites in the form of the starting of new Drug Dynamisation unit at Co operative Pharmacy, Alappuzha. There are not even promises for new dispensaries. It is sad that the efforts of various organizations including IHMA in high lighting the efficacy of our system failed to attain their goal. At the same time, we need to applause the Central Government’s decision to include Homoeopathy also in National Rural Health Mission Programme. If properly prepared and administered, this programme will give us immense potential to propagate the merits of Homoeopathy among the public far and wide. The Medical Officers entrusted with this programme should take extra care to attain the same Wishing all of you the best Editorial: Volume 14-Issue 1 Dear Colleagues, The year that passed was eventful in many aspects for the homoeopathic community globally. We defended ourselves and emerged unscathed at the end and should be prepared to face similar derogatory issues in the future also. The only way to defend our system is by getting latest knowledge on our system and its position in the world. We should strive hard to acquire knowledge from all corners to practice this noble system effectively. Today, the academic as well as the career position are far better than the earlier times. We do have post graduate programmes and research facilities to enrich our field. But at the same time, it is pathetic to note that the number of research papers and books coming out from our field are very very less- discounting a few works of substance from scholars here and there. As the editor of our journal, it is quite difficult - almost impossible to get genuine articles of substance not because of lack of experienced doctors with good clinical practice, but they are reluctant; it seems; to take the pain and allot time to jot it down on paper!!!. It is high time we realize that the propagation of knowledge in any subject enriches the propagator as well as those around him who imbibes it and again it is high time those who with genuine knowledge and experience come out of their cocoon to share it with their colleagues and youngsters. I take this opportunity to request all our readers to help us find good articles for our journal Yours in homoeopathy Editorial: Volume 13-Issue 4 Dear Colleagues, We are coming to the end of the working year and believe that we were able to justify the trust bestowed on us by our organization in acting as the organ of our association. I am happy to see that the editorial board is working in harmony as a well- oiled machine in bringing out the quality material through our journal. I am thankful to the continued, unconditional support and guidance from our national president Dr. M. G. Oommen and other NWC members. From this issue onwards, there will be a separate “ News letter” for the association matters regarding the Kerala State Chapter. We realize that with the launching of so many new chapters and sub chapters in all districts of Kerala, it will be impossible to cover all the chapter activities in ‘Panorama’ alone. Also we believe that it is not ‘proper’ to allocate so much space for Kerala State alone, as we are a national organization. Only those relevant reports with national implication and importance alone will appear in Panorama hereafter. This extra space will be utilized for genuine medical articles. Please note that we have started two series of articles on Cardiology and Miasm from two eminent homoeopaths doing researches in these fields. Hope these articles will be of use to us all in our clinical practice. Please feel free to contact us with your valued suggestions and creative criticisms. Once again thanks to all our readers for rooting firm for us Yours in homoeopathy
Great achievements were made when men dared to explore paths hitherto untrodden. When men challenged their own brain with thoughts otherwise unheard of. Homoeopathy is the best example. Even though a natural law, ‘similimum’ was the far opposite of what was then practiced at Hahnemann’s time. And using infinitesimally small doses definitely attracted laughter from every corner (it still do!). Still it turned out to be a great discovery. I think one should plod through similar paths in the quest for a scientific (palpable) explanation of the system. Recently in an international discussion forum on Homoeopathy I came up on a very strange and interesting remark about homoeopathy. ‘Swamy Brahmananda of Brahmasamajam, who was also the disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Pramahamsa, was once offered an entire homoeopathic manufacturing facility by its owner. That offer of the successful much profit making factory to the assets of the ashram was however turned down by the swamy. The reason he sighted was that “men achieve moksha by their karma. They have to undergo all the sufferings due to them in the way. But homoeopathy has the ability to cut in this sequence and alter this process and so is against the ways of God!”’ It will be a good thing to pause a little bit before your start laughing. Because I think we may find a complete equation to represent the system of homoeopathy if we labour our Brain cells after this. So I challenge all the readers to come out with their view and explanations, if suppose the above statement purportedly made by the swamy is true. We have nothing to loose but a whole new era of glory to mankind to win. Last month in an unfortunate and sad incident Dr, Philomina Vijayan, former tutor of Govt. Homoeopathic Medical College, Kozhikode lost her life. She was in the middle of her successful medical career. More than a rumor is there that many people are responsible for her untimely, tragic death. Despite the fact that the grieving family can never bridge the gap, we strongly demand a proper enquiry to be conducted in to the whole affair and the culprits sentenced, so that this kind of things never happens.
It is heartening to note that contrary to the propaganda that Homoeopathy is
loosing its ground in the international scenario, it is booming in the Middle
East countries of UAE and Oman. Here in the ultra fast cities where illnesses
are burned out with extra heavy doses of conventional medicines at the slightest
suspicion of symptoms, people are flocking to have the sweet pills. Even the
local population is slowly getting attracted towards it. It is learned that
other GCC countries may also follow suit sooner or later. Once again the system
has proved its mettle.
Some times a little late,
It is with great pleasure I announce you a major change in the set up of the journal. The ownership of the same is changed from that of KHMGA the prestigious organization to that of Indian Homoeopathic Medical Association (IHMA) a nation wide organization of devoted homoeopaths. A change is always viewed with apprehension, especially in a journal of this kind, which follows strict discipline as regards its policy of genuine homoeopathy. In this regard I would like to clarify that the intention and the out lay of the journal is not changing at all. Because KHMGA was in the forefront in bringing about IHMA. The only difference is that it now has company of likeminded homoeopaths from all over India. So instead of the strength and the standard of the journal coming down it really climbs a step further by this move. You can expect the same stringent fight it had whenever homoeopathy is at stake. I also use this space to announce all to visit ‘www.ihma.org.in’ to know more about the latest outfit. Recently in a widely read homoeopathic journal a bold enough headline announced that ‘homoeopathy is really on the decline in this country’. The assumption was on the fact that on an overall scale the sales out put of manufacturers is not climbing up the ladder but remain static. I think it is a serious issue, which needs to be discussed at great length for the survival of the system here. This kind of news and its wide publicity indicates that we are traveling fast into the very trap that set the deterioration of this magnificent system in other parts of the world. Because, even though we can say that doctors, retail-pharmacists and manufacturers are all to be well thought of in any development regarding homoeopathy, it is obvious like daylight that neither of them is really important than ‘patients’, the so called suffering humanity! And for them sales output of manufacturers or bank balance of physicians are nonetheless important than a relief from their pain. Unfortunately this ‘alleviation of suffering’ can be achieved with a minute dose of well selected remedy. So much bad news for anybody who thinks to make abundance of wealth from this system. This indeed is a shortcoming of the system when seen from the material point of view. Because the inherent quality as innovated by The Master makes it possible to treat with minimal medicinal quantityso that cure ensues, not adverse effects. So this kind of headlines will serve only two purpose. One- it will depress the young folks who come to this field and second- will create a false aura that all these costly combinations are really necessary for effecting a cure. Both will cause general ill health in this system ultimately leading to peril. Back into the journal. Some routine changes see familiar faces going out making way for new ones in the editorial board. A warm welcome to the new faces while remembering thankfully those who did their job with full heart -without thinking about any material benefits-. Another change is that this editorial and subsequent editorials for some time now also, is written from UAE. I assure you that this shift in the editorial address will not affect the vigour and vitality of the journal. Instead you can expect more news of homoeopathy and IHMA getting better in other parts of the world too. Lets spread the message of gentle healing art… wide and far.
All the above said is repeated in these same pages many times. So what is new here? The “Ayush” Indian Govt. Department of Alternate Medicines have formulated a six months’ condensed course to convert interested allopathic (MBBS) doctors to Homoeopaths! The CCH, supposed to be the watchdog for the system has given a mysterious green flag to the project too! There is not a single organised body of homoeopaths in the country who agrees with this act. Protests are already rocking New Delhi, the capital. Its echo is reaching up to far south. Students and practitioners alike are in a bad mood. A typical shock-pain-numbness syndrome. We do not object to any body learning this magnanimous system, but in a systemised way. But to learn all the art and philosophy that is homoeopathy in a short course of six months is impossible task. To think that this is offered to such minds that cannot digest the same with two hundred years of well cooked broth. Or those minds who pretend not to listen to truths and exclaim that their rabbit has three horns! Those who didn’t even have the patience to verify the testimony of millions of people who flock to homoeopaths all over for all kinds of ailments. How can one who says there is no place for philosophy in a medical science can ever learn a system with its two legs out of three in philosophy? Not to mention that in a span of six months. We agree that there may be individuals who quest the truth, who are eager to master this science even among the allopathic physicians. Why doesn’t the government reserve a certain percentage of seats in homoeopathic UG colleges for MBBS (or any medical graduate) holders? It will be the only right move to create a healthy environment by ending this dirty dog fight. Ultimately benefiting common men who are the real owners of all this. Much money and manpower is spent for the uplifting of various medical systems in the country. Apart from the tax payer’s money spent by the government various organisations like KHMGA is born and living for this cause. To spoil all this is very easy by two or three such blunderous decisions. Even though they do it with sheer ignorance, one cannot pray to the God to forgive them. Because they are not only cutting the branch that seats them but killing the future of the system too before it reaches the womb. Let’s pledge not to allow this. But save homoeopathy and mankind.
In this pleasant occasion it is good to do some musings over our world and the universe. Time is passing with immense pace and the technology is racing still ahead. The advancement in the field of Science and Technology in the last ten years surpasses that of the past hundred years and in the last two years’ outnumber that of the last decade! The computers are doubling their capacity and capability every year or other. If things are to go on like this it is only a short while from now for us to find answers to many puzzling questions. We homoeopaths have a lot to celebrate in all these. Because I think it is about time we stumble across the secret behind this magnanimous system of therapeutics. It is not that there is a shortage of theories and postulations already. But unfortunately they all remain theories and postulation as on now after making some progress in establishing a palpable scientific explanation to the working of the system. Many such obstacles are due to the incapability of today’s science to comprehend the qualities of the theory of Homoeopathy. The theory of infinitesimals is one such thing. With advancement in the capabilities of science there are good chance that it may come across some answers to the long standing puzzle. Another very good news in the new year is the establishment of a full time research wing of KHMGA. ‘Kerala Homoeopathic Research Centre’ (KHRC), a subsidiary of KHMGA has already started working. The centre is to intensely concentrate on research and will function, besides conducting its own projects, as a guide to all who want to do research and as we came to know that it would also verify, validate and certify any research conducted in the field of Homoeopathy. It is a much needed relief we feel as we have been repeatedly pointing out this large deficit in the development of the system here. We whole heartedly congratulate KHMGA for such a daring act and remind them that the task is not at all an easy one. We also offer our support to all endeavors the ‘research centre’ is to undertake. We urge all homoeopaths to come up with good quality research. You can at least provide worthwhile ideas for research! As said many times in this column we are all humans before we are scientists or physicians. Just in case if any one wonder what the above two paragraphs do in the editorial of a scientific journal. So this be our resolve in the year and all along. To find the humanity within us. To make this place the best one to live in.
Editorial: July-September 2003 Homoeopathy is getting more and more popular. In fact it is getting so at an accelerated pace in the recent times so much so that the criticism against it is getting into an insurmountable level also. The last to generate such unstudied, hate-induced work was the success of the system in the epidemic prevention in the last few years. Everywhere people are crowding to get the sweet pills. This included some harsh critics of homoeopathy as well as many medical men from other schools. To the dismay of the make-believe skeptics these simple pills worked too. This is more than they can imagine and endure. One can understand it well. But what one cannot understand is why these people do not use their ‘grey cells’ before setting up themselves against homoeopathy. Instead it is the same old blabbering all the times. Avogadro number and succussion into infinite is always the point of discussion. One can always laugh out this insanity, as one is much confident of the capability of the system, which is proven again and again all over the world. But I think we should look at the things with a little bit more concern because lately more and more persons of high scientific (?) reputation are hired for this blabbering against the system. Even though all of them play the same tape over and over again!, and call themselves scientists! But when such people talk in this manner the common men are put in a very confusing situation. The ordinary folks, who used to get speedy, gentle relief of their seemingly incurable, life threatening and devastating illnesses with these tiny sweet pills do not understand science but only the suffering, which never get into the harder than ordinary skulls of the scientific people. So let us say this. Let those know-it-all take some tiny sweet pills which have ‘nothing but some sugar and a bit of avogadro and placebo’ in them. And after they experience strange symptoms and signs break open the sealed envelop given to them beforehand to find it described there in the order and sequence it happened! But then they call it ‘magic’. "Sure, it is some sort of sorcery", they say. And call themselves Scientists! Another favourite argument of them is dropping a Nux vomica nut in the ocean activating the entire water into a vast pool of Nux (God-only-know-which) potency. Let them answer this. The reverberations of a single atom split in Hiroshima is not over yet. So how come nothing happens when they crush the boulders in quaries. So many atoms are spilt there, eh? Ok, to be double sure let us hit a bit of Plutonium with a big hammer and bingo..?! Or if you are a fusion expert (more dangerous than fission) never be near a welding machine. Even preparing some simple wheat dough may get explosive some times. No, please don’t try to explain the equations and formula. I don’t understand because I am a sophisticated and learned one who cannot be mislead by your pointless arguments. I am a scientific man! I will rather die of a simple disease than take your sweet white witchcraft and get cured! Dear worshippers of the science, I have only one thing to say. If you do not have the courage to experiment with what is new and what you do not know, please stop all this and go to your arm chairs. For the sake of all of us let us not forget this; learning is supposed to increase our knowledge, never the other way. Let all our wisdom work in the right direction and make living in this earth a lot more comfortable
Editorial: April-June 2003 The monsoon is here with its usual splendour, even though a
little late in arriving. It also brought with it the usual paraphernalia of
epidemics. But as every one here know well this year there is a slight
difference in the course of the so-called yearly routine epidemic season of
Kerala. Already more than sixty people have died from ‘fever’ when I write
this. Even doctors are afraid to take patients with fever. Some allopathic
doctors even go to the extent of prescribing two kinds of paracetamol (two
different brands!) to the same patient along with high dose antibiotics in the
hope of some how controlling the temperature.
Patients are fainting with severe prostration only because they are
diagnosed as having fever. That much is the extent of the havoc it is causing to
the daily lives of common people. The media is full of news about the dead and
the dying. One rightfully wonders what may be the cause of all these. Being modern men we can confidently put aside the idea of ‘punishment by the God’ for supporting a government who sits on a never hatching egg of promise when all these are happening around us. Or, for supporting an elaborate international terrorism against women and children in many countries, which has reached even ‘God’s Own Country’. So there may be some other cause. Let us analyse it rationally. There happened to be influenza epidemics here in every year. People used to manage them within their households and if it is not subsiding within one or two days go for simple medicines like homoeopathic drugs and over the counter paracetamol prescriptions. Only severe cases go to institutionalised treatment. But this year the scenario is entirely different. People were flocking to hospitals with fever. All of them were returning with prescriptions of multiple drugs as said earlier. The reason; mass hypnotism by learned men and the media that a dreadful killer is on the loose. The result; extreme morbidity as well as mortality, which is still rising. Someone having a preliminary knowledge in pharmacology knows
that heavy antibiotics and even antipyretic analgesics will not be properly
metabolized by a weak system. Besides the rationale of giving antibacterial
regime to the viral infection too is dubious. One cannot be blamed if he
suspects a larger international sabotage plan behind this, by the MNCs who own
the drug market. One other factor that irks them and the modern medical men is
the popularity of alternative medicines which escalated steeply with the great
success of the preventive campaign by KHMGA and other organisations in the last
year. It is saddening to see all this. But it is not the time to
sit idle. We request all to rise to the occasion and educate the public the
reality. It is the only way out of this crisis. One new chapter is beginning for us. Three doctors are going
out of the Editorial Board and another three is coming to the team. Dr. Abhiram
Dr. Basheer and Dr. Subi, who worked wonderfully for us in the last year need a good hand of
applause. We also welcome Dr. Prasanth, DFr. rejikumar and Dr. Felix. While you shower us with
praises on the content and standard of the journal, please remember that it is
the selfless service of all doctors in the Editorial Board that make all these
possible.
Let’s all put our interests to the last and work for the
greater cause.
One
should thankfully acknowledge that we have only to explore the trail blazed by
him. The major part of the work is already done by the master and the pioneers
who cleared the way for us. Yet if we choose to sit back and relax, using only
what is given to us, not putting in even an iota of effort to add to that, it
deserves not even a derogatory remark. Because we are doing a big crime against
ourselves! So
we think the best thing we can do in this time of fond memory of our beloved
master is to shake ourselves awake. And set out to work. Means real hard work,
which will make our hands rough with callous. Will toil our well ironed clothes.
And will bring sweat on our foreheads. Gleaming droplets of satisfaction
indicating the victory of Homoeopathy. We
the team of Homoeopathic Medical Panorama once again declare our love for Dr.
Samuel Hahnemann. We would like to re-affirm our unending commitment to the
betterment of the system of Homoeopathy. We also resolve even more hardly to end
the sufferings of human beings in all fronts of life. Thinking
about the brotherhood among human beings one cannot remain silent about the
present crisis engulfing all of us. We are all human beings before we become
homoeopaths or physicians or anything. The barbaric act america and britain play
over humanity is beyond all words of contempt. It is made clear that the
established courts of justice are nothing but a scarecrow against this
‘international terrorism’. The most dangerous aspect of this is that it will
fasten the growth of extremism and separatism all over the world, producing more
terrorists if nothing else. We think it is our duty as human beings to resist
these kinds of behaviour with all the means and if you can do nothing else you
should at least shun such people with your mind. We
declare with full heart that we are against any such terrorist acts and demand
that america and britain should be suspended from United Nations
pending detailed enquiry into the matter. This
world is for each and every one of us. Our kids are to be brought up on the
streets of tomorrow, once we depart from the scene. Let us not forget that fact.
Let us work towards a better world order. Let us stand for peace.
Editorial. October-December 2002Dear readers. One more page is being turned in the calendar of mankind. But the life goes on and on with all its intricacies. Even with the mammoth advances in the fields of medicine and technology man couldn’t beat the diseases trailing him ever since. More over more diseases are added and the old ones, some thought to be exterminated forever, is reappearing with new vigour. The reappearance of small pox, the recent surge in the incidence of plague, Leptospirosis, cholera and even the simple measles against which every child in the country is forcefully vaccinated are only a few of the examples. The medical world is tired of coining new names for theses diseases if they cannot find plausible excuses for their appearance/existence. Where do we stand at this juncture? The significance of this scientific system of therapeutics, which treats the ever-mounting illnesses with the simple theory of ‘symptom similarity’, is only increasing. With our mild yet extremely powerful medicines we are able to tackle almost any disease from the forefront. Recently we have even proved our mettle in the prophylactic aspect also. The very words of our honourable Health Minister are ample proof for that. The good news is that with emphasis on the symptomatology rather than the underlying complex phenomenon of each separate illness we are better equipped to know as well as fight against the diseases whether it is the old or a new one. The long queues of patients in the Homoeopathic OPDs are becoming a common sight now. We request all of you to utilise this opportunity to serve in a better way the suffering humanity and to popularise the system even more. You do not have to do anything active to do this. But only your proper care in the case and using all the resources available to you in curing it will suffice. Consider that the individual benefits (monetary or personal glory) are only the by-products. Remember what the Master said in the very first aphorism about the ‘mission’. Also understand that whatever criticism it may suffer, it will be only Homoeopathy, which will come the rescue at the end. We wish you all a successful year ahead in the fight against man’s eternal enemy. Now about the enemy of Homeopathy, the practicing quacks. This plague is still haunting us despite our best efforts. Recently ‘Ayurveda’ got a favourable verdict in the same issue from the honourable High Court of Kerala. Our pleas never enter the ears of the authorities. And we are still groping in the dark in our fight against this. Curiously enough every thing seems to come to a standstill when the question of Homoeopathy comes. From the secretariat to the village office everybody is interested in doing a bit of homoeopathic quack practice! Even a prominent national daily is not giving us enough support purportedly due to the predominance of homoeopathic quacks among its work force! What these people purposefully ignore is the fact that what they are dealing with is people’s lives and the dignity of an established therapeutic system. Any way it is pleasing to know that KHMGA is renewing their efforts and a new case is filed in the High Court of Kerala in this regard. We express our wholehearted support to the issue. There are enemies still within the establishment itself. The monster external PG mentioned in detail in the last issue is only the most recent one. It is indeed a heartening thing to know that now the graduate community including students, interns and practitioners alike are united in their efforts against it and programmed a massive and severe agitation in the matter. We wish them all success. Know that you are not alone. Every self respecting homoeopath, not necessarily be a graduate, is with you. The leading journals in the country are following us in editorials against this issue. Let’s hope our efforts will bear fruit within no time. Obstacles will arise, always. The journey will be a bore, other wise. So do not give away your hope. For, we will indeed win at the end. Once
again wish you all a successful year ahead in Homoeopathy.
In fact, all this is very good for the system because controversy always benefited us, the child of a lesser God, who otherwise will never get the attention of the big brothers. See the article on ‘basophil degranulation’ in the ‘Homoeopathic World’ in this issue for example. All the work done in that filed so far is intended to prove the theory wrong even though in effect it did prove us right! This does not mean every homoeopath is to start some sort of controversy to get the attention. But you do what is due to you. When it brings results, unavailable else where, unmatched in any other system, it will raise the eyebrows of those around you. Most of the time in irritation as you are doing something, which they can’t do. Something which their limited knowledge and intelligence could not digest. Then they will start working with all the resources available to them. And resources they do have in abundance too. Almost always they will return with proof for the effectiveness of Homoeopathy! Because truth can’t be suppressed forever. Introduction of Post Graduation a few years ago was indeed an important milestone in the development of the system in the country. As the name itself implies it is an option for those with graduation for higher study as well an opportunity for boosting up the research work –however scanty it may be- in the system. But all that was made into a mockery in the face of the system with the latest addition of ‘external PG’! Any body with 10 years professional experience even if he does not possess a graduation can obtain post graduation (!) under this new rule. We have nothing to say about it than this, rather than referring to it as PG in homoeopathy please rename it into Post do-whatever-you-wish in Homoeopathy! Putting aside the irony of conducting an external PG course when there is a well established system for a regular PG the criterion for the same is totally irascible. Every self respecting homoeopath should raise their voice against this degradation. Because the system is sustained by its members like we the physicians make a living from it. We have an obligation to look after it. So raise all who are sleeping and fight till the end
Practising
homoeopathy is a much complicated affair when compared to other systems of
medicine. There are many peculiarities here. But, perhaps the queerest of them
all is the double diagnosis. We have to do a twin diagnosis, of the disease and
of the drug, while doing with our casework.
Both are equally important and the latter is infinitesimally more
difficult. Disease diagnosis is easy. Adequate knowledge in internal medicine,
which is supplemented with the knowledge in the other branches of medical sciences,
viz. anatomy, physiology, pathology etc. is the requirement. But
drug diagnosis does not stop there. One should have more than adequate knowledge
in the materia medica as well as a deep insight into the philosophical
intricacies. Then only he can evaluate and analyse the symptoms and construct a
true picture of the disease, the totality, which will only point out to
the correct drug diagnosis, the similimum. Homoeopaths at large tend to be stuck up
to either of these two aspects of practising medicine. Majority are experts in
drug diagnosis and the minority masters in disease diagnosis. The former group
giving paramount importance to the similimum, some times totally ignore the
disease. And those of the latter group are not much proficient in finding out
the correct drug. To
excel as homoeopaths one should be well versed in both these aspects. Give equal
attention to both and workout on both of them tirelessly, even though it is much
more difficult to practise in this way. There is no need to explain about the
importance of similimum. We,
medical practitioners, deal with dynamic commodities. Our patients as well as
diseases are dynamic in nature living and thriving all the time.
New diseases are added to the list every day.
The concepts about the old ones are changing at the same rate.
All these affect the management strategies. There are also the
socio-cultural implications to be taken care of.
All of these point an unbendable finger at the importance of the disease
diagnosis. To
be precise there is no use in bragging about the magnanimity of the system, but
to work. Work harder with every case. Then there will be no other system to
challenge ours. Despite
our repeated appeals, even in this space itself, the government is continuing
the contract-basis appointments. It seems that some solid action is what
required now. We request all homoeopaths to unite in protest against this
autocracy. So is the necessity of conducting the PSC tests, which can’t be
said over due but we forgot when one was conducted last time!
It
is time for reminiscence as one more year had gone past.
The machinery is rolling forward. The
editorial board is re-shuffled. We thankfully acknowledge the services rendered
by the out going members. Their
intent attains magnanimity when one sees that all these are honourary services;
without even thinking about material benefits. If
all of us put in our efforts like this there is no reason to worry about a
bright future. For the system and for the mankind.
One more birthday of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann is passing through. To many of the
so-called homoeopaths it is just another day of their busy medical practice
where they do not even pause for a moment to pay some remembrance to the Master.
We once more repeat that it is the harvest of his hard work and dedication that
we still reap, for our daily bread; even though it is shameful to remind a
homoeopath the fact. The significance of the system of Homoeopathy is increasing
day by day. There are many accolades it gets from all over the world also. But
the sad truth is that our master is still not getting the due respect and
reverence in the medical Alma matter. We say with pride that the least
recognition he should have given was the ‘Nobel Prize for medicine’. Still,
we can get him his share by dedicated work and determination. Try to upgrade the
system in any way you can. Add more sophistication and transparency to it. Put
your collective intelligence and thinking power to unravel the real power
working behind Homoeopathy. The world will surely be stunned and the system will
be cleared forever from the stigma of being a fake. Thus we can repay our
master. We
re-instate our pledge that we will stand for the uplifting of Homoeopathy in all
means. We dip our head in front of the Master with love, affection and thanks
for all that he gave us. Just
now in the above paragraph we mentioned that today’s Homoeopaths have nothing
but practice and money in their minds. There is no clearer truth when one
examines the facts. The Governments, State or Central are continually degrading
the system in many ways. Yet no body except a very few are actually aware of it.
Still a few are only doing anything against it. The vast majority only sit back
and relax reaping as we said, from the bulk till that lasts. Now a day in Kerala
Homoeopathic Medical Officers are being appointed on contract basis on daily
wages. It was begun as an emergency measure during the recent strike of Govt.
employees in the state. But now the strike is over but the strategy continues.
We should remember that there are well established set ups for the said
appointments in our country. The PSC and for the interim needs the Employment
Exchange are more than enough. The present appointments are overriding both
these. Also it should be clearly understood that the MOs thus appointed has got
no other power than merely writing down the prescriptions. They cannot even
purchase the necessary essential drugs. On the remuneration side what they get
is only a fixed, limited amount. No perks and no protection. Not even a
weightage for what they rendered to the society. On the other hand the
employment exchange appointees get all the privileges of a proper PSC appointed
MO. Many learned doctors are falling victims to this cunning plan. We have
already stated our protest in it and demand once again that this should be
stopped and steps be initiated for making appointments by PSC at the earliest.
For the time being the vacant posts should be filled through employment
exchanges. With
a full-fledged postgraduate programme, the system is even stronger now. It is
only natural that the MD holders will be more qualified than the BHMS and the
Diploma holders will be definitely inferior to the Degrees. There is no use in
getting irritated by this. Neither is any effect in barking at the shadows. We
have to say this much because IHK, one organization climes to be a prominent professional
(!!) body is doing the same. There is not much use in considering them as
doctors, still less as Homoeopaths. But at least there should be some human
element present in such people. It will be highly desirable for them to have
a course in the usage of decent language in public speaking. Because people tend
to evaluate we, true homoeopaths by their actions, as they claim to be
homoeopaths too. We all get occasional bouts of disappointments and irritations.
But being normal humans one does not bark or bite at others for the same.
Let us pray to get a little more patience in our dealings so that future
generations will remember us for our achievements rather than our
mischievements. Editorial:
Oct-December 2001 But now a day the scene is changing. There is the example of Kirlian photos of homoeopathic potencies, the existence of IE crystals in dilutions, which are stable, non-melting, micro-minute ice particles shown up during diluting the drugs (see ‘Homoeopathic World’ in April-June 2001) and lastly there is the molecular cluster theory (see Homoeopathic World in this issue). All these are scientific evidences, brought out by real scientists. These indeed give the system the much needed energy to fight off the skeptics. But more important, as said earlier, it replenishes one’s self esteem. Even though a lot has to be done in this field. More research has to be conducted and the most important thing is to produce the evidence of how the potencies work in order to effect a cure. Then we can systematically prove the effectiveness of any drug and only then we can rest. For this each and every homoeopath should come forward with ideas and suggestions as said in this very pages many times before. Those ideas may inspire physicists and chemists to probe deep into the mystery of homoeopathic potencies. Yet another aspect of this is the proving. One takes a substance, which may be active or even inert medicinally and prove it in healthy humans. The symptoms thus obtained are then matched with those who are sick and if a cure is effected that itself is the greatest proof of the system. This is mainly for those who suspect of the system from within it. Proudly published exclusively by ‘Panorama’ in this issue are the provings of two new drugs. Please see what the authors say there; “this proving experiment has made our belief in Homoeopathy stronger and clearer”. Any
doubting mind can think his way through the logical step of proving a drug and
become satisfied. We should do this occasionally too not only to assure
ourselves. It is easy to criticise a working system only because we are unable
to understand the fact behind it. It is even easier to ignore any such criticism
and simply sit there letting the system perish. But it takes all the effort to
attack those critics and to make a healthy conviction in them. One can even
convert them with a little more effort. Amazingly such foe turned friend often
becomes the strongest aid to the system. Such action is only the just to be
expected from the offspring of this magnanimous system. Editorial: July-Serptember 2001 Vaccination
was a subject of controversy ever since it's inception.
Vaccines can claim the second place, if not the first, of importance in
the allopathic school. Appearing as
miraculous medical agents, that cure an illness even before it appears, the
number of vaccines happens to increase every day. But
the lesser known or purposefully neglected, fact is that they bring with them a
number of unnecessary adverse consequences as well.
These include from fever to
the gravest autoimmune diseases. Many
authorities have foolproof arguments in this regard. Yet
another unanswered question is the possibility of using vaccines as biological
weapons. This in fact is the more
serious issue, which cannot be simply smiled off as science fiction.
In today's world of cutthroat competition, nations would do anything to
attain and maintain supremacy over others. Do remember that the majority of
vaccines, especially those used for mass immunisation
of third world countries like 'Pulse Polio'
immunisation, come from western
countries in the pet name of 'aid'. For
the last few years each and every kid in our country is being singled out and
fed with polio vaccine year after year. The surprising thing is that the
‘pulse’ programme
has been already wound up two times. Yet every year it comes out again. (May
be some vaccines has to be invented against the annual recurrence of it!) It's
easier than you think to add some kind of gene-modifying factor in these drops.
Take just a moment to think about the situation of our population about
20-30 years from now. A few viruses
of influenza or a strain of bacterium is all that is needed to subdue an entire
nation, 'if they want'! Add to this that the technology is so advanced so that
certain sophisticated laboratories were in the preparation of second generation
of cloned animals when we here were postulating about the possibilities of
cloning. As
physicians under oath it is our responsibility to know the truth and tom use
them in the best interest of our patients. In
the wake of all these we bring forth this issue as 'vaccination special'.
Please send in your comments. Another
issue, which should be mentioned here is the sad turn of events that result in
learned homoeopathic doctors doing the jobs of pharmacists, nurses and even
clerks in government services. To
say it in the least words 'let's not degrade the profession'.
The qualification these people acquired by
labouring five or six years in the
Homoeopathic Medical Colleges itself is worth to earn them a living as well as a
status in the society. If anybody
thinks otherwise it is better to return the degrees and remove the apron before
they degrade themselves to such dirty and cheap levels. Let's
once again re-instate the pledge to upgrade the dignity and integrity of
profession as well as the system.
Homoeopathy is not faith healing, as many skeptics think. It is an established science with definite principles. But faith is an ingredient much needed for the system to succeed as a therapeutic method. This can be called the ‘Homoeopathic faith’. This has two components. One is the faith of the patients in Homoeopathy. Many times it is experienced that despite the insistence from the doctor for a referral the patients stick with the treatment and most often they prove right too! This actually is the major cause for the system to flourish so far and will continue to make the system the ever favourite treatment option for millions of people. The doctor has nothing to do in it. It is only the ‘magnanimity of the sytem’, which makes this possible. The other part of the homoeopathic faith is less noted but of equal importance. It is the faith of the physicians in the sytem of Homoeopathy. Surprisingly there are Homoeopathic Physicians without faith in the sytem, more than one think there is. They too affect cures, but due to the first said faith and also of the luck of their patients. You take any successful, which means physicians who tasted real success with Homoeopathy in terms of annihilating the sufferings of human beings, homoeopath and you can see the faith in them. All others are just practitioners doing more or less the job of administrator of homoeopathic medicines. Even though a shameful fact it is true that many a quack practitioner do affect a cure occasionally because of this faith. This Homoeopathic faith springs up not from a mere contact with the sytem. But it grows up with deep knowledge, constant acquaintance and hard work only. That is why the great master had uttered the word mission about the calling of a homoeopath. You include it in your career and surely you will be the blessed one. The ‘Homoeopathic Medical Panorama’ has gone through one more year. A year with some major changes in the outlook of the Journal. We know from your responses that you have accepted this change. Still we invite all of you to come forward with more suggestions and directions to make our journal the most sought after one in the field. There are some changes in the Editorial Board as part of the association set up. Some new members are replacing some outgoing ones. We welcome al the new Editors and at the same time remember with thanks the services rendered by the out going personals. Dr.Deepu Keshavan deserves a special mention here. One other important matter should be remembered by all of you. All the editors working behind the Journal are doing ‘honourary service’ to the association. Donating a part of their valuable time and effort for a noble cause without receiving anything in material benefits. If we put our strength together in such way we can definitely make this magnificent sytem of healing still more successful. Together let’s do it.
Of
all the professions practiced, that of the doctor has got a unique significance.
Because he is considered to be somewhere between man and god.
Even though life and death are handed out by the Almighty, the doctors
usually come as a mediator in between. This
is true in both these aspects; in the case of life (whether in the rejuvenation
of a desperately sick man or in the birth of a baby with all joy and hope) as
well as in the case of death (which may extinguish the entire hope of a family). The
doctor usually approaches a case with the silent prayer and the pledge to fight
till the end for the betterment of the patient.
To use the last weapon in his armory to ward off the evil forces of
disease. And never in the intension
of doing harm to the patient. So
even a moment’s pause or a mild hesitation may spell out difference between
life and death in certain circumstances. In
such instances absolute discretion and authority is a must from the part of the
doctor. Now
a days medical men are agitating (a fact which would never be allowed to happen
to a profession like this) for the correction of an anomaly in the law.
That is, considering the death of a patient in the hands of doctor under
section 304 and 304 A of Indian Penal Code, amounting to murder and culpable
act. A totally justifiable need.
We hope the mass of public and the men of power will realize the
significance of the point and work towards a positive solution at the earliest. Let
us not forget the other side of the story too.
That is about the general decline of ethics, even though in a minor way
in medical men. To put it in the shortest form, it is the duty of every medical
man to uphold the status and dignity of the profession. To keep the position of
mediator between men and god. And if we kept that up no law can ever do harm
to this noble profession. The advancement
in the medical system and its allies are excellent. Equally alarming is
the growth of disease forces. The significance of doctor-patient relationship
has attained an importance like never before.
So keep in mind the fact and always do your best. An
eventful year has passed away. It
is with great joy we proclaim that we have become a true international journal.
A full-fledged website (www.hommedpanorama.gq.nu) is proclaiming
our presence to the whole world. A
major part of the credit in all these goes to Dr. M.G. Oommen, the current owner
of the journal. It is a sad fact that his tenure is over and
he is leaving his seat to the new president of KHMGA.
We the editorial board like to thank him for his unending support and for
giving us a totally free hand in upholding the standard of Homoeopathy, in true
spirit of the free press. We
would also like to say that even though the owner changes the ownership will
remain the same. The Kerala
Homoeopathic Medical Graduates Association.
The views, the quality and the substance of
‘Homoeopathic Medical Panorama’ will remain the same. Together
lets all march towards a better world through Homoeopathy. Wish
all readers a happy and prosperous new year. In
the new millennium let us spare a few moments for some serious thoughts.
Let us not forget the duties entrusted upon each of us as Homoeopathic
professionals. Because even though
the system of Homoeopathy is getting stronger by each day it is still plagued by
many shortcomings. Apart
from the problem of unqualified/quack practitioners, the greatest threat we face
today is the lack of effective interaction among over selves.
This hinders all kinds of developments of the system.
Individual practitioners, in turn, suffer by not getting the necessary
reinforcement and back-up from the system.
The result is a crippling practice, the exact opposite of
professionalism. This
timidity to come out and mingle with the mainstream may arise out of many
reasons. Lack of self-confidence,
unsure prescriptions and concealed prescriptions are major reasons.
Surprisingly these interrelated issues are results of a lack in proper
scientific framework which is palpable enough to exhibit in front of critics.
In order to cure the system of these drawbacks we should interact with
each other. So
the vicious cycle will continue until eminent and efficient Homoeopaths come
together and put their collective brain to work for such a cause, that is, to
explain Homoeopathy. Perhaps
science has not advanced up to a level to understand such phenomenon as vital
force and its deviations. But still
it is not an excuse for us to sit still and enjoy while this magnificent system
gets raped in public, which happens every where every day, as much as the
accolades it gets. Please
go through the article ‘Homoeopathy a Critique’ in this issue It is only one
of many criticisms, this one indeed is done well.
All the doubts raised there can be perfectly clarified by any good
Homoeopath. But can you furnish
solid proof for some of the questions in it?
That is the big question. And
it should be answered, soon too. So
come forward, all those who make a living out of this system of wonderful
healing. And make Today’s
science, ever handicapped, intelligent enough to understand and explain
Homoeopathy. Thus making the world
a whole lot better. Once more wishing you all good times ahead
in Homoeopathy.
Editorial:
July-September
2000 Dear Doctors.., Diseases
exist in one form or the other as long as mankind exists. Along with the
advancing technological resources the magnitude and the virility of the disease
forces are also increasing. Modern day medical man with all the sophisticated
weaponry, is still struggling in the fight against the diseases. Many a killer
diseases, which are supposed to be under control are still lurking in the
untouched epidemic pockets and causing periodic episodes of mortality and
serious manpower loss. Sharing
and spreading knowledge is the only way to effectively implement the available
resources by coordinating and reinforcing it. Also it will stimulate researches
and thereby productions of new, more effective measures in our tool box.
Panorama and like journals are doing a small but sure bit of work towards that
end.
Research dose not always require expensive tools and extensive efforts.
But done within the premises of your consulting room will also be equally
productive. See what Dr .J. T. Kent
has said more than a hundred years back. “The capabilities of our materia
medica is something wonderful, they could be developed much more rapidly if a
number of homoeopathic physicians would make applications of materia medica with
accuracy and intelligence, observing what they see and relating it literally.”
(Lectures on materia medica-p.629). We request all those in the profession to
take this up with seriousness and do your bit of work. Observe what you see,
record it, compare with others like that. And if you get something new let
others also hear about it. That is a sure way for the system to develop. So
please come forward with your views and suggestions. With out you knowing it,
such bits of knowledge and wisdom put together, will make a big difference to
the way we tackle the diseases. We
the new team of editors welcome you all to the family of Homoeopathy. Hope you
will find ‘panorama’ as good use in the profession. Thanks to all the
authors and all others who worked for the cause. With your co-operation we can
make it still better. Together let us march to a healthier, better world.
Finally a word of thanks to Dr. Yahya and his team for their efforts so far, which made the Journal a bold and unique one in the field of Homoeopathy. We are indebted to them also for the fact that the established existence of the journal made our work so easy.
